Semiconductor

Photodiodes. The red circles on the right have a sun sensitive surface. The circles on the left are the connection pads for the diode.

During my semester work at the Institute of Semiconductor Electronics I produced photo detectors based on indium phosphide. Photographing the edge of the wafers while I was checking them produced these wonderful images.

The photographs were shown and sold in 1999 at the IPRM in Davos.

Production of photodiodes: For the production of photodiodes, the semiconductor material is structured using photolithography. The unmasked area is then removed or material such as gold is applied. This process creates "valleys and mountains", and the photodiode structure. The production control is done under a microscope.
